Founded in 1956, the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) is an association of nonprofit independent colleges and universities, state-based councils, and higher education affiliates that works to support college and university leadership, advance institutional excellence, and enhance public understanding of independent higher education’s contributions to society.
CIC is the major national organization that focuses on providing services to leaders of independent colleges and universities and state-based councils. CIC offers conferences, seminars, publications, and other programs and services that help institutions improve educational quality, administrative and financial performance, student outcomes, and institutional visibility.
CIC and Riipen have joined forces in a multi-year work-based learning initiative to benefit 25 member institutions. This collaboration will integrate work-based learning opportunities into up to 375 courses led by 125 faculty members and impacting up to 11,250 students.

Psychology and Social Sciences Practicum - Spring 2026

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on learners from Franklin University to be your learner-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over 6 weeks, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Learners in this program will be provided a culminating, integrative experience for Psychology and Social Science majors. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their mastery of learning outcomes associated with the major. Learners will self-select a practicum experience that can be completed within the duration of the course that will provide evidence of their subject matter learning, as well as provide a benefit to themselves and a participating organization.
Community Resilience and Historical Impact Analysis

This experience offers industry professionals the opportunity to collaborate with learners who have explored the complex relationship between trauma, memorialization, and community identity within the context of American history. Learners are adept at analyzing the effects of natural disasters on local economies and community identities, leveraging their research skills and historical insights. By participating in this experience, companies can gain valuable assessments of the socio-economic and cultural impacts of disasters on communities, aiding in strategic planning and community engagement initiatives.
Inclusive Education Strategies for Mild/Moderate Disabilities

This experience focuses on equipping preservice teachers with practical strategies to support students with mild to moderate disabilities in both general and special education settings. Learners will gain hands-on experience through a practicum, allowing them to apply innovative teaching methods and adapt educational materials to diverse learning needs. By collaborating with industry professionals, learners can contribute to projects that enhance educational inclusivity and accessibility, ultimately benefiting both students and educational institutions.
Data-Driven Evaluation of Mental Health Initiatives

Learners are trained to evaluate health promotion and education programs with a strong emphasis on data-driven approaches. They can design and assess mental health initiatives, collect and analyze data, and provide evidence-based recommendations to improve organizational wellbeing strategies.
